DIRECTV has developed a technologically advanced on-screen program guide to support its expanding channel listings and additional video and data available on the service. The Advanced Program Guide(R) (APG), which is currently available on the DIRECTV DVR Receiver, and select high-definition and standard DIRECTV Receivers, provides up to 14 days of program guide listings, which can be accessed instantaneously through the program guide. The APG has a customizable display function that enables customers to sort through programming selections by different categories, support TV and MPAA ratings and local channels in either off-air antenna or cable formats*.
Capabilities
Capacity: The APG can provide up to 14 days of program guide
listings (12 days more than the standard guide), which also includes a more
comprehensive description of each upcoming program. Because the APG information
is stored in the IRD, customers are able to access the guide instantaneously,
reducing the wait time for the IRD to acquire information from the satellite.
The number of days of program guide information supported by the APG varies with
each DIRECTV Receiver manufacturer. Some DIRECTV Receivers with
APG support less than 14 days of programming guide information.
Customizable Program Display*: The APG enables viewers to customize their programming information display, which can be sorted by: favorite channels, date and time, text, such as name of actor or title of program, as well as other formats. In addition, the APG can also support specific features such as Spanish-language and channel segregation, which enables customers to search and display channels that are in a specific category.
Compatibility: With the addition of local channels in areas where available, the APG can display more than 1,400 NTSC and ATSC channels and listings to allow for a single seamless guide that supports both DIRECTV services and local terrestrial broadcasts, whether customers are utilizing an off-air antenna or cable system. The APG is also V-chip ratings compliant and supports both MPAA and TV ratings on all DIRECTV programming selections. TV programs that never received an MPAA or TV rating such as "No Rating" or "NR-Mature," are now supported by the APG.
